What you should know about Waitawheta Camp Society
Bring your group to Waitawheta Camp where you'll enjoy learning about the outdoors and yourselves in an environment made for adventure!. Our camp is ideal for schools, sports groups, recreation groups, family reunions, weddings, staff training and conferences. Whether it's tramping, cycling, kayaking, abseiling, exploring gold mining heritage sites or travelling on the vintage rail train, there's so much to do in and around the camp. There are fresh water swimming holes in the rivers close to the camp and at Dickeys Flat.
Absolutely! The camp will be yours alone during your stay as we only hire to one group at a time. A natural setting with established grounds in a beautiful location central to Auckland, Tauranga and Hamilton with a fully equipped catering kitchen, a large hall and dining area with accommodation for 100 people. The school closed in December 1973, and the school building itself is now the Waihi Beach Play Center. Waitawheta Camp is a non profit Incorporated Society, istered by a committee of volunteers and resident managers.
Having spent the best part of 20 years living and working in Waihi we feel we are almost locals!
Dark Hill, Waihi an excellent one hour walk to view Waihi town and surrounding areas. Ideal for schools, sports groups, recreation groups, family reunions, weddings, staff training and conferences, Waitawheta camp is the place to come learning about the outdoors and yourselves in an environment made for adventure!. The Client accepts all responsibility and liability for ensuring their own safety. From Auckland to the camp OR from the camp to your activities aw. Martha Mine Pit Rim 1 hour, walk includes re planted native bush with excellent views into the mine pit. A change room with toilets, showers and heated floors is located within the complex.
A vast way to spend the day walking or cycling through the spectacular Karangahake Gorge. There's many tramps walks in accessible driving proximity to camp from 1 hour walks to overnighters. The safest walks in maximum weather are within the Karangahake Gorge, Victoria Battery, Martha Mine Pit Rim. The Client accepts that kayaking, cycling and associated activities have inherent risks, and can be dangerous. Responsibility All groups must have an on site adult Group Leader responsible for their member's general behavior, for breakages or devastate to property during the time of occupancy.
Accommodation consists of two main dormitories with five private smaller rooms, then a standalone chalet and two private rooms in the Hall
